Humans are possibly the most narcissistic beings on the planet. Most of us have completely lost touch with the fact that we are not separate from each other, our ancestors, and the fact that we are Nature. I know this, more and more thoroughly, by touching into The Directions, an indigenous way of knowing our embodied consciousness on this miracle of a planet.
I’ve been studying the Directions for decades now. I was exposed to this idea (as if it were only an idea!) while living at Harbin Hot Springs. I studied it during ministerial training in the Heart Consciousness Church, which is DBA Harbin. I took it to heart (irony not included) fairly recently when the hot springs retreat center burned up in a California wild fire, taking with it my catering business and my community/chosen family.
This is me, reaching out to you, to know myself and you as a beautiful sunrise, a campfire, water melting through snow, watching Mars twinkle in the sky while we feel our feet firmly planted and pray for guidance. Those are, symbolically speaking, the feelings of the 7 Directions: East, South, West, North, Above, Below, and Within. Welcome to my world. Welcome Home.
